Isagorus and Cleithenes - aristocrats

Isagorus:

  • ostracized Cleithenes 
  • Athenians revolted against him 
  • tyrant
  • fled Athens after being stranded on the acropolis for two days 
  • 508 BCE
Cleithenes 
  • becomes in charge (508 BCE)
  • allowed people to vote but they had to be men that were citizens 
  • middle class and upper class only 
  • very rich person 
  • politician 
God and Goddesses 
  • Poseidon - god of the sea, Aphrodite - goddess of love, Dinysus - god of wine, Zeus - god, Semele - human princess, - Zeus - ruler of heaven and earth, gods and goddesses - father of Athena 
Athena 
  • goddess of wisdom, skill, warfare and peace 
  • born from Zeus' head fully formed and armored 
  • Athens named after her
